Hallowe'en

I celebrated Halloween for an extra long time this year.  Friday, the employees were allowed to dress up for work.  We had a good time and ate as much as we worked.  The best part was seeing all the kids dressed up at the library.

Here in Utah, our celebration was Saturday.  Our neighborhood loves Halloween and it was the same revelry as every year:  Spooky houses, fog, Jack-o-Lanterns, scary (and cute) trick or treaters, and enough candy to put a person in a coma.  This year, we had rain as an added touch.  It was a minor obstacle in all the fun.

It's a dead man's party . . . who could ask for more?

Don't run away . . . it's only me.

Happy Halloween to everyone!

Our first snow

Late last night, I drove out of the underground parking lot at the Library, to find a snowstorm.  It was our first snow of the year.  I was in a hurry, as usual, to get home and be with my family.  However, the drive was a beautiful one.  The snow flakes were so huge that I could almost see their delicate patterns.  I was reminded once again of the intricate perfection of nature.  I thought of the picture book, "Snowflake Bentley" that I have read to my children, and how no two snowflakes that fall are alike.  It's amazing to think about.  God is great.

The Great Pumpkin

It rained most of the day yesterday.  Add to that fact that several of us are sick, and you get an interesting day.  We got a little carried away with indoor Halloween activities:)

At our house, the rule for buying pumpkins is:  If you can carry it, we will buy it for you.

They proved their strength to us this year.

They worked a good long time on scraping out and carving their pumpkins.  Seeds and slime all around.

My Three Sons

Since I am sick and tired (literally), I am spending some time posting about my three favorite things:  my boys.

God sometimes gives us what we need, instead of what we ask for.  Growing up, I had no brothers, and not sisters for that matter.  I had good male examples in my life, and my Dad was half super-human in my eyes.  Still, I secretly maintained the belief that boys are from another planet.  If you had told me then that I would someday be the mother of three of them,  I probably would have laughed, or run screaming.

Yet here we are . . .

I remember when Dakota was born, I was instantly in love with him, as most mothers are.  When we took him home, I was so nervous that I would not care for him properly.  He was the guinea pig, as all eldest children are.  He frequently reminds me of that sad fact.  Maybe he developed his keen sense of humor from all we put him through.

Carson followed almost six years later.  He had heart surgery at 5 days old, and is our miracle child.  Always willing to help others, and to tell all he knows, he is a constant entertainer.

Micah is our youngest.  He is built like a football player, but wakes up with a smile on his face, and has a sensitive soul like his mom.

So they came to a mother who is a sentimental poetic girly girl kind of a person.  I saved my doll collection, antique china, and boxes of keepsakes.  These boys are boys, and I never know what I will find in the next room.

But all of them love my keepsakes and my stories of my parents and family. They have huge loving hearts, and take me on an adventure each day.  They like classic rock (which I had nothing to do with) and read my poems.  They even love to cook.

How I love these boys!  Beyond anything I could have imagined.  They makes me laugh, cry, and sometimes want medicine, usually all in one day.  My house in full of Star Wars toys, Bionicles, Pirates, etc.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm thankful for these three.

Sick with something

Okay, the season has officially arrived.  I'm sick with something yucky.  I haven't missed work in a long time, and it's caught up with me.

This morning, after being told by Ray that "Mom is really sick, let her rest,"  Micah worked super hard to keep his other two brothers quiet.  He was a little mini-me, saying at least a dozen times for them to behave, calm down, resorting to threats, etc.  When nothing worked (Surprise:), he came into my room in frustration.  He said, "Can we just use sleep darts?!"  Amen, Child.

Loved ones

We had a fabulous visit with Uncle John and Aunt Marian on Thursday evening.  We went out for a yummy dinner, and then came back to our house.  We always look forward to their visits each year, and love them both!

Another quote

"There is no such thing as a simple act of compassion or an inconsequential act of service.  Everything we do for another person has infinite consequences."

Pumpkin patch day

I realized as I was getting these pictures ready today, that my very first photos on this blog were of Halloween. . . and another pumpkin patch . . . last year.  I have been blogging for a year now.  It's hard to believe how much I have enjoyed documenting our little everyday things.  I think I'll keep it up:)

Anyway, we went to Hee Haw Farms in Pleasant Grove for a field trip today.  Carson and Micah had a blast, and Dakota warmed up to the idea enough to have some fun.  The hay ride was the best, and then choosing pumpkins from the patch.  It was a difficult and time consuming choice.  I just chilled while they searched and searched and well . . . finally found the two perfect ones to bring home.  Bring on the candy and a cold drink:)

Book Club Reading

My friends Robyn and Andy invited me to come and read some poems from my book to their book club group.  It was a really nice evening, and I was glad to be included.  Rynell, Shelley, and Kelly (a friend I haven't seen for a long time) came also.  I hope everyone enjoyed the poems as much as I enjoyed spending time with them.

More Fish stories

So they went back to the river and caught even more fish last night.  Dakota and Carson each caught five good sized White Bass, and Ray got one.  Micah caught his first fish ever, and it was a Walleye!  That was quite a prize for him:)

Provo River Monsters

Okay, so these fish are not Alligator Gar, elusive Arapaima, or huge Goonch Catfish.  And they were caught close to home.  Nevertheless, these White Bass were just as exciting to these budding anglers.  Sunday evening a low front moved in, which we had been waiting for, and Ray took the boys to the river.  Some of us secretly believe it must have been a reward for watching 8 hours of General Conference, over the weekend:)  Anyway, here are some pics.
